Our initiative in West Singhbhum, Jharkhand, supported by the Azim Premji Foundation, focuses on empowering Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers through the implementation of the Forest Rights Act. We are committed to enhancing livelihoods by establishing Forest Producer Organizations and promoting sustainable management of forest resources.

Our project has successfully capacitated local personnel and educated communities on their forest rights, fostering sustainable consumption and production patterns aligned with SDG 12. This not only aids in climate change mitigation by preserving biodiversity and managing forest resources but also strengthens community livelihoods through the utilization of Minor Forest Products and sustainable forest management. We are excited about the continued positive impact on local communities and grateful for the ongoing support from the Azim Premji Foundation.

We want to highlight the success of the Workshop on Eastern Region: Sheepherders as Climate Justice Activists, held on 2023. Organized jointly by Actionaid association & Live foundation, this aimed to address the challenges faced by the Pal-Gadariya community in eastern India with a focus on climate justice principles. The workshop provided a platform for community members, activists, scholars, and experts to converge and tackle pressing issues affecting 'Gaderiya' community. The workshop included illuminating sessions on the cultural significance of nomadic livelihoods, the importance of forest rights, and strategies for enhancing community resilience.

The workshop concluded with a commitment to ongoing efforts to amplify the voices of the 'Gaderiya' community and influence policy decisions. The year 2026, designated as the International Year of Pastoralists, was identified as a target for achieving significant progress in raising awareness, advocating for rights, and implementing climate-resilient solutions for nomadic communities.

Explore the World of Pastoralism in Jharkhand!

The LF, in collaboration with Sahjeevan, Gujarat, conducted groundbreaking research on Pastoralism in Jharkhand during. Exploring villages like Joga, Murmukala, Kankari, Jaynagra, and Paneri Bandh, we uncovered the cultural and economic importance of this age-old tradition, dating back to 1907. Previously overlooked, Pastoralism not only enriches soil fertility but also fuels the local economy. We're dedicated to advocating for the preservation and support of Jharkhand's pastoralist communities, raising awareness about their unique way of life and ecological significance. Our research has shed light on this neglected aspect of Jharkhand's heritage. We invite you to join us in ensuring the sustainable practices of pastoralists thrive for generations to come.

FOREST RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

LIVE FOUNDATION with an objective of conservation & sustainable forest management in Palamu, Latehar and Dumka districts, organized trainings to strengthen the gram sabha. The purpose of capacity building of gram sabha was to develop forest resource inventory & to orient and provide handhold support to forest dwellers at village level with a special focus on women & marginalized communities. The forest resources are an important contributor to the total livelihoods among the tribal communities in the block. Forest development integrated with agricultural progress has great potential to enhance livelihood security, poverty reduction & food security for the vulnerable community.

In Palamu, LIVE FOUNDATION took the initiative of identifying the pastoralists groups & conducted an in-depth research study on their lives and the dying culture of pastoralism in a bid to rejuvenate their dying cultures & more importantly the vanishing small-scale woolen-blanket making industries.
